Baxter’s Story

In my opinion, there are two types of dogs: dogs that you take care of, and dogs that take care of you. Baxter absolutely took care of us.

Back in 2012, I ran a Boston Terrier rescue website, and one day I received a Facebook message from a man in my city (Las Vegas) who had gotten a puppy from a breeder in Oklahoma and was having regrets. In his words, the dog "wouldn’t shut up." So, I put my then-two-year-old Boston Terrier, Sophie, in the car, and we drove to his house. It was there that we first met our Baxter.

He had a box that he spent time in. It was in the backyard, outside, in the middle of an extremely hot Las Vegas summer, and it was full of pee and poop. He was underweight and sickly. After some back and forth, I took Baxter home with me. Baxter knew from that moment he was saved from what would have been a rough life, and he spent the next twelve and a half years showing an amount of love that we didn’t know was possible. He was sweet, caring, and spent his days worrying about the family, caring for us, and never leaving our side.

When we rescued our cat, Nala, he was the first to calmly welcome her to the family and make her feel comfortable. Baxter showed us a type of love that is not common, and could only come from a being like him. When we lost him, we didn’t just "lose a dog." Our entire world crumbled.

This website is built in his honor, and we know he’s watching over us as we share his story with the world. He will forever be the greatest thing we’ve lost.
