Clementine’s Story

Our track star. Our troublemaker. My best friend. Forever my girl. If there was one thing about Clem, it was that she did everything her own way. She had a personality bigger than life itself, a stubborn streak that could drive you absolutely crazy, and a spirit that could never be contained. She had more nicknames than any dog probably should, but there was one name that always got her attention: her full government name, Clementine Blanche Deveraux. Whether I was calling her in from outside or trying to catch her after yet another escape, she knew exactly when that name meant business.

And oh, did that girl love to run. All legs, no sense of self-preservation, and absolutely convinced that the world was hers to explore. She gave us more than a few heart attacks with her great escapes, including one adventure that lasted four hours. She was our little track star, our escape artist, and the reason we could never let our guard down for a second. She had her favorite things, too: deflated basketballs and her Kong alligator, which she would knead like she was making biscuits. She had her own little routines, her own quirks, and a way of making even the most ordinary moments unforgettable. Those were the things that made her Clem. They seemed so small at the time, and they mean everything now.

And then there was Rosie. Clem and Rosie were inseparable. They were the dynamic duo, two little souls who shared their lives, their beds, their toys, and their adventures. Rosie might have been the boss, but together they were a team. They competed over sticks, played together, and slept beside each other. They had a bond that didn’t need words, and seeing them together was one of those things you never thought you’d have to miss.

She was years of laughter, chaos, companionship, and unconditional love. She was a million little moments that became a lifetime of memories. Clem wasn’t just a pet. She was family. She was my best friend, part of our home, part of our everyday lives, and part of me. I don’t know when that will stop hurting. Maybe it never completely will. But I know this: if love could have kept her here, Clem would have lived forever. So run free, my sweet girl. Run like the track star you always were. Find every stick, chase every basketball, and make all the biscuits your heart desires. I hope your legs never get tired, your heart never hurts, and you never have to struggle again. Thank you for every laugh, every adventure, every ridiculous thing you did, and every bit of love you gave us without even knowing how much we needed it. Thank you for being Rosie’s sister. Thank you for being my girl. I hope you knew how loved you were. I hope you knew that you were safe, that you belonged, and that you were home.

You were one of a kind. You were loved beyond words, and you will be missed beyond measure. Until I see you again, my little track star. Save me a place, sweetheart. Forever my Clem. Forever my best friend. Forever loved.
